A passion is born

I grew up outside of Hastings Michigan out in the country.  Our property and that next to it had always been family owned but before that was Native American campsites.  As they migrated back and fourth across Michigan hundreds and thousands of years ago, the native Americans (most likely Pottawatomie) left behind traces of their every day life.  I used to spend many hours looking for (and finding) those traces: arrowheads, spear points, and ground slate/granite tools as well as the occasional piece of pottery.  One of the same fields I hunted I'd occasionally find a relic of a newer variety and made of metal (usually old iron or copper).  My grandfather shared my passion for collecting and gave me his old metal detector one day and said here, try using this, you might find something easier this way.  Thus began a love of detecting that has grown through the years and with it a desire to connect the past to the present by way of the treasures I find in the ground.

What's with the website name you ask?  "Salvus" is Latin for "to save" or "saving", "Historia" is Latin for...you guessed it history. Thus "Saving History", this is my goal, my passion, to save history or rather rescue it from the ground where it sleeps.  I also enjoy beach hunting, water hunting and an occasional "tot lot" (playground) looking for change and jewelry but I enjoy find relics from the middle 1800's to early 1900's the most.

My other Hobby (Career stuff)

When I'm not metal detecting I like to serve as the architectural rep for a Walker Michigan architectural metals supplier.  If it holds glass, we make it.  It is a company with a long history, 70+ years in Michigan and we are proud to server our clients now nationwide. (Think aluminum, but not the "can slaw" variety).
